Copper ore will be trucked from the mine and dumped directly into the crusher dump pocket that feeds a primary gyratory crusher.The ore will fall through the crusher and be collected in a discharge bin.Primary crushed ore will be withdrawn from the bin by an apron type feeder. The apron feeder will discharge to a conveyor belt that will in turn feed a tripper stacking conveyor that discharges to an ore stockpile.
Pretreatment of copper ore prior to heap leaching includes crushing and agglomeration processes which were studied in this thesis research. Crushing is a high energy consuming process.In mining operations generally jaw and gyratory crushers are
used for primary crushing and cone crushers are used for secondary crushing.During the past couple of decades High Pressure Grinding Roll crushers are being considered by mining companies due to lower energy consumption. In the present research copper ores were crushed by a jaw crusher and by HPGR and the products evaluated for particle damage, as well as by column leaching to determine the rate and extent of copper recovery.
Grinding is an important industrial operation that is used for the size reduction of materials, production of large surface areaand liberation of valuable copper ores from.their matrices.In addition to copper ore processing, it is widely used in the manufacture of cement,pigments and paints,ceramics,pharmaceuticals, and cereals. However, the efficiency of this operation is very low.In copper ore beneficiation, grinding is also the most energy~onsuming process. Energy consumed in ore grinding in various mills as compiled by Hartley et al. It is to be noted that the energy consumed in grinding alone represents up to 70% of the energy for the whole beneficiation process.Corresponding figures for the present operations can be expected to be much higher.
